If music making was transformed by digital tools then mass communication was next. We used to go to the cinema, read books or listen to the radio but now we do all of that online via streaming. All these varieties of communication no longer dominate culturally instead are there to feed content into the internet. David Bowie said in an interview in the late 90's that a young person then would more likely be involved with the internet than rebel through making music. Content creator is now a job title for anyone to monetise their lives and talents online.
