This new music can also be thought of as truly urban music. In the last 15 years more people now live in cities than in the country and this music is the true sounds of urban culture. More importantly is that black and queer people drove this culture. It gave space to the outsider, to the person who society didn't accept in to be themselves and to express themselves. The underground clubs began with acceptance of difference as all are equal. I think this foundation is key to understanding the individual revolution. It has allowed for people to explore and experiment and to re maker themselves away from the expectation of where and with whom they grew up around. What began in underground culture has leapt into the mainstream and I do believe that digital tools, in all their varied forms, have hugely supported this.
