The first genres of sounds we made of the Digital Age was Hip Hop and House Music, began in the 1970's using analogue and digital sounds, drum machines were being experimented with and by the 1980's, synthesizers and drum machines were fundamental to the growth of this new music, which at its heart is an exploration of rhythm. Digital sound brought forth a new consciousness driven by these new rhythm soundscapes. The exploration of rhythm on drums millenniums back may well have been the first expression of a common consciousness made form in dancing of the group. I imagine dance rituals bonded us together in shared experience and rhythm was fundamental to our evolution as people in the analogue age of sound. .

Hip-Hop and experimental music using synthesizers and drum music were part of the new soundscape but a new sound called House Music, from Chicago, has had perhaps the biggest affect upon society. In the 1970's , black , queer and outsiders gathered and danced in small nightclubs. Free to be themselves and to express themselves, they danced as ancient people still do, and in their dance sought a new consciousness. This music broke out into the wider underground scene in the 80's and took hold in Europe with raves in the late 80's and early 90's. What began as a safe place for people scorned by society had traveled to the center of main stream society. Digital sound brought forth a new consciousness driven by these new rhythm soundscapes which sought acceptance for difference in society.
