Kleinfontein (spring of water) is in the Pak Huis valley and is the last valley of the Cederberg mountains. The river running through the valley begins here to cut a gorge. There are rock paintings throughout and you begin to get a sense of where they are just by looking for where someone could shelter. It is hot and dry in summer and cold and wet in winter. Clouds come in from the coast and drop their water weight on these mountains. The farm faces East, the sky twilight pinks and purples into which the moon rises from the Tankwa Karoo 80km away.  I began here to make marks and soon settled on circles with the kitchen sponges and by dropping paint into wet marks to watch how the colours bled out. like craters I thought.
